Separate Together – Sharing a Solicitor
Why Separate Together?
Separate Together is a low conflict way of a solicitor jointly working with a separating couple.
It allows a separating couple to share a solicitor who will work with them both to find a solution for their family.
Looking to share a solicitor for divorce advice, contact our Specialist to find out how we can help you.
What is the process of Separate Together?
Our Specialist Divorce Solicitor will represent you as a separating couple and take joint instructions from you.
It can include giving legal advice to you both and preparing joint legal documents to ensure your agreement becomes legally binding.
This will start with an initial individual assessment. Thereafter moving on to joint meetings. The appointments are typically by video link.
Once an agreement is reached, the agreement will be recorded into a legally binding document.
What are the benefits of sharing a solicitor?
- Sharing one solicitor offers a more amicable approach by minimising the conflict and associated emotional and financial cost.
- It saves time.
- Reducing conflict and saving money and time benefits both individuals emotional, physical, financial and mental health.
- It helps both individuals transition to independence more smoothly.
- It gives a couple an opportunity to separate with dignity. By honouring the love and respect they had in their relationship.
- Remaining on good terms and working together is the best way to achieve the best outcome for everyone involved.
Will my individual interests still be looked after?
Yes.
A solicitors role is to protect individuals’ interests and to point out where there is inequality or unfairness in any proposed suggestion or outcome and to find a solution around that. This is a key part of a legal advisors day to day role and something our solicitor is highly skilled and experienced in.
Is Separate Together suitable for everyone?
Separate Together is suitable where you have a commitment to working together to find a resolution that works best for the whole family.
It requires a willingness to be open, honest and transparent in all aspects. Also, it requires you to work through your disagreements together with a common goal.
There are instances where Separate Together may not be suitable and alternative options will be discussed with you if that is the case.
